rYour self-esteem is how you feel about yourself: do you think you’re a good person? do you value yourself? do you know what your strengths are? do you believe in yourself? When you have low self-esteem, everything can feel more difficult: it can be hard to take opportunities, or put yourself out there. When our self-esteem is higher, we recognise our worth, and can step forward into the world with confidence.
Self-esteem is like a muscle, with practice, you can build it. Sometimes it can be helpful to explore why your self-esteem is low, or where your ideas about your worth have come from. Therapy can help build self-esteem by giving you a safe place to explore these issues. Talking about your self-esteem can be uncomfortable, but having a therapist you can trust can make it possible. And if it is too hard at first, you might find that just having a place to talk about yourself can help your self-esteem grow.
As a person-centred counsellor, I approach you knowing you have worth and believing you have value. Accessing your own understanding and belief in your own value is not always easy though, and some of your life experiences might have made this more difficult for you.
If you would like to build your self-esteem, or find out where it comes from, please get in touch and arrange an initial meeting or a first session.
